Kelly & Dan | Kansas City Engagement

Kelly and Dan are one of the most genuine and kind people that I got a chance to know.  Kelly and Dan live in Virginia, and last Christmas they made a trip back to Kansas City to spend time with their families.  And of course, there is no better place to start the photo shoot… right at Kelly’s home where she grew up.  I’m looking forward to documenting their wedding in April.

I thought it appropriate to make my first wedding blog post of 2011 to be of my last wedding of 2010 and the first of 2011 that I shot.

Plus I just love this family so I wanted to give them a bit of teaser before they came in for their viewing in a few weeks.

I had the honor of spending New Years Eve 2010 with Melanie and Eddie, their families and closest friends.  It was a wonderful evening and celebration.  I got to know Melanie’s family a few years ago when I documented her older sister, Melissa’s wedding.  They are all so close and over the top hospitable.  It is always a joy to be able to work with a family multiple times documenting each sibling as they get married.  This wedding was no exception.  We arrived that day at the Intercontinental Hotel on the Plaza to open arms and welcoming trust.  Since they all have been through this before we were able to simply jump in and start doing what we do best.  It was another flawless event carefully directed by the one and only Michael Nolte of Notle’s Bridal complete with giant party poppers showering the crowd with streamers at the stroke of midnight.  It was awesome.

The ceremony took place at Our Lady of Sorrows Church and the ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel never looked better.  I only wish she had more siblings so we could do it all over again!  These people really know how to throw a party and make everyone around them feel right at home.  Thank you so much for letting us document your day and … Read the rest

Big news! We are growing………

So if you have seen our facebook page you might be a bit confused.  We are expecting………some new blood……..in the studio……..not in our home!

I would like to proudly introduce you all to some new members of the Wirken family.  In efforts to always offer the best to our clients we have decided to grow our team with another photographer as well as a brand new division to Wirken Photography —   Wirken Films.

Change is good in my opinion.  Change forces you to think differently and make what is already good even better.  With the new additions to our team came the need for a new website overhaul as well.  So be sure to go to www.wirkenphoto.com and see the changes as well as learn more about our new members of the team and their work.

I will start with David Tsai.  David is a good friend of ours here in town and has been shooting documentary weddings for years now in Kansas City.  We have been chatting about having him join our team as he would be a perfect fit for a long time now.  Everything lined up finally and we decided to make it happen.  He is such an amazing person and talent.  We are honored to have him on board.  It will allow us to service so many more clients now that we have the three of us.  David is a perfect fit here as the quiet observer and has a sense of humor that blows my mind.  I love seeing how he sees the world.  So with that I give you David.  Everyone say hi!
